What is Diabetic Eye Disease?
Diabetic eye disease, a leading cause of blindness, often has no early warning signs. That’s why it’s so important for people with diabetes to get regular eye exams to catch problems early — and get timely treatment and the right follow-up care. It is important to have regular Diabetic Health Exams. The good news is that early detection and treatment can drastically lower the risk of blindness!
- Diabetic eye diseases are a set of eye problems that can affect people with diabetes
- There are several kinds of diabetic eye diseases, and all of them can cause vision loss and blindness
- People with diabetes can protect their vision by getting eye exams at least once a year
- Controlling diabetes can help lower the risk of vision loss
Symptoms can include
- Blurred vision
- Flashes of light
- Sudden loss of vision
- Blotches or spots in vision
What your Optometrist can do to help:
